Projects

JGSWS has two current projects, and volunteers are welcome for both.

Cemetery Project: We are working with the Washington State Jewish Historical Society to catalog the data from Jewish cemeteries and funeral homes in our state. The results are posted on our Cemetery Project page and on the JewishGen Online Worldwide Burial Registry (JOWBR). We have data from 10 cemeteries so far.

Please contact Mary Kozy if you'd like to help with this project.

The Vital Records Indexing Project: We've started a new project to transcribe data from birth, bar/bat mitzvah, marriage, and death announcements that were printed in the Jewish Transcript and other Jewish newspapers during the past 80 years. We're currently working on data from 1924, the first year the Transcript was published. When completed, the information will be submitted to JewishGen and will also be available at some local libraries.

Please contact Phyllis Grossman or Mary Kozy if you'd like to help with this project. Currently, all work must be done at the Seattle Central Library using your own laptop or a library computer. Later, it might be possible to use interlibrary loan to get some of the materials closer to where you live.
