About Us
The Jewish Genealogical Society of Washington State (JGSWS) is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization run by dedicated volunteers. We enjoy sharing genealogical information, techniques, and research tools with those interested in Jewish genealogy and family history.
We hold monthly meetings on Zoom on the 2nd Monday of each month from September through June.
We offer programs for beginners as well as seasoned researchers. Recent topics by expert speakers have included using synagogue records, dispelling immigration myths, restoring Polish Jewish cemeteries, navigating metrical books, DNA research, and reading Jewish tombstones. JGSWS is a member of the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies (IAJGS, https://www.iajgs.org/). Jewish Genealogical Societies (JGS) provide information about valuable resources including specialized records including synagogue registers, Holocaust records, and Yizkor books. We provide expert guidance on Jewish naming and history, genealogical databases, and DNA support.. We also facilitate networking and collaboration among researchers looking into their Jewish roots.
